Our New Year's Present to the President
The president, speaking at the American Bar Association convention
this year, asked why newspapers only print bad news. "Why don't they
tell us things like how many planes landed safely in the United States
in one day?" he asked. Here is our New Year's present to the
president -a column of good-news items.
* In 1931, Alice Hoover Meyers, now 88 years old, began writing her
first novel, about life in a small Kansas town. Last week, Milburn
University Press published the 1,500-page novel, The Women in the
Club, more than 60 years after Mrs. Meyers put pen to paper. When
asked about her reaction to becoming a published author at age 88,
Mrs. Meyers replied, "I hope there's time to write the next one!"

Başkana Yeni Yıl Hediyemiz
Amerikan Barolar Birliğinin bu yılki toplantısında konuşan başkan,
gazetelerin neden sadece kötü haberler yazdığını sordu. "Neden
Miburn
Üniversitesi Matbaası, Bayan Meyers kaleme aldıktan 60 yıldan fazla
süre geçtikten sonra Kulüpteki Kadınlar adlı 1.500 sayfalık romanı
geçen hafta yayınladı. 88 yaşında kitabı basılan bir yazar olmaya
tepkisi sorulduğunda Bayan Meyers şöyle yanıt verdi:"Umarım sonrakini
yazmaya vakit vardır!"
